I am based on the Farnborough / Camberley border, so a lot of my work is on Surrey wedding cakes. However, I do of course work across a much broader area, and with Hampshire, Berkshire, Sussex and London so close, these tend to be the main areas, along with Surrey that I work in. In Surrey, we have loads of beautiful wedding venues, so I wanted to pull together some photos of my favourite Surrey wedding cakes. They are great inspiration if you’re searching for wedding cake ideas generally, and a brilliant place to start if you’re looking for wedding cakes that work well within your venue.
This Surrey wedding cake was set up at the lovely Woodhaven Space in Woking for an inspiration shoot. The space itself is an eco house with space for various types of events. It’s very naturally inspired inside and makes you feel so calm and happy when you spend time there. I wanted to keep with that theme for the cake – naturally inspired. So everything in the cake is completely edible and/or compostable. It’s decorated with homemade caramel, fresh fruit (blackberries and blueberries), with dried strawflowers and rose petals. Inside is a chocolate sponge with caramel buttercream. A perfect Autumn / Winter wedding cake flavour and design.
Although it’s a small wedding cake, it’s an extra tall 1 tier wedding cake, so it would feed around 35 people. It’s perfect for an elopement or COVID wedding.
A Dramatic, Modern Wedding Cake for Millbridge Court nr. Farnham
One of my all-time favourites, this Surrey wedding cake was set up for a lovely couple at Millbridge Court. They wanted something dramatic and eye-catching in a semi-naked style. So we created this hanging wedding cake design with a small wedding cake on the side for cutting. Although my semi-naked cakes look slightly different now (more caramelly coloured icing and 4 cake layers instead of 2), this is my style in a nutshell. Simply decorated but perfectly executed to create the perfect statement wedding cake.
The couple wanted to keep the cake visually the same, so opted for a trio of citrussy flavours – a vanilla sponge with lemon buttercream, a vanilla sponge with lime buttercream and a vanilla sponge with orange buttercream. On the side, they opted for a chocolate orange cake. Altogether, a 4 tier wedding cake like this would serve about 200 people.
Spirit Lake is a really magical outdoor venue in Dorking. With a focus on nature and sustainability, a team of us worked to pull this inspiration shoot together. There was a beautiful teal and orange colour scheme, along with some beautiful flowers and props to turn this blank canvas venue (a beautiful field type space with a lake, trees and wildlife) into the perfect wedding scene.
Like most of my cakes, everything is either edible or compostable. For the design, I wanted something that was simple but used some more advanced techniques to create a really high end wedding cake. You’ll see more of my homemade caramel here, along with a torched meringue, dried orange slices, dried flowers and fresh fruit. This would make the perfect small wedding cake, or you could expand that design over 2, 3 or 4 tiers for a truly luxurious Surrey wedding cake. With a 1 tier wedding cake, you could serve about 25-30 people.
The Most Beautiful 3 Tier Wedding Cake with Flowers (Sugar and Fresh) for Northbrook Park in Farnham
This wedding cake was so special for me as I don’t do very many fondant wedding cakes. It was also a real collaboration between suppliers – with myself and the florist setting up the cake table in tandem. At the bottom of the cake is a crown of fresh flowers containing roses and gypsophila. At the top of the cake, those flowers have been recreated realistically in sugar along with sweet peas. These flowers tied into the invitation design, which was also incorporated into the custom monogram piped onto the middle tier. As Surrey wedding cakes go, this one perfectly captures that luxurious, English country garden vibe which looks so beautiful within the grounds at Northbrook Park.
Inside this cake, the couple went a little bit outside of the box, picking some of their all-time favourites – coconut and lime, lemon and sticky toffee pudding. This 3 tier wedding cake would serve around 110 people.
This Surrey wedding cake is definitely very glam! Designed for another inspiration shoot, this 2 tier wedding cake was covered in chocolate ganache (basically the inside of a truffle) and then dusted with a rose gold lustre to make that sparkly mirrored finish. Given that no fresh, local flowers are available in the Autumn/Winter months, I used bay leaves, dried flowers and dried fruit to create the arrangement on this cake. It looked really beautiful in the warm light at Bury Court Barn.
With the flowers and perfectly imperfect finish on the ganache, it’s a great rustic wedding cake design. This arrangement looks perfect on a 2 tier cake making quite a statement even though it’s a smaller cake, however, it could be adapted for larger or even smaller wedding cakes. A 2 tier wedding cake like this would serve around 60 people.
